History

Former Chinese People's Government Heavy Industry Department decided to invest 375 million kilograms of millet to build PRC's first heavy machinery plant. On October4, 1950,the hardware warehouse broke ground, marking the transition of TZCO from preparation to construction.

In order to provide equipment support for the newly started industry of PRC, TZCO developed dozens of the domestic innovative products. In 1961, under the direct instruction of Premier Zhou Enlai, TZCO produced China's first 350-ton gantry crane.

With the convening of the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, TZCO entered a new era of reform and opening up in all respects, especially with the establishment of design and research institute, reaching a new milestone in scientific research and innovation.

Under the leadership of Comrade Jia Qinglin, the former director of TZCO, the company provided Baoshan Iron & Steel Co, Ltd. with a complete set of φ140mm continuous rolling mill equipment, which was at the forefront of the world at that time, thereby aligning the enterprise with advanced global standards.

Amidst the wave of market economy, TZCO began exploring the establishment of a modern corporate system. In July 1998,Taiyuan Heavy Industry Co, Ltd. was established, becoming the first listed company in the heavy machinery industry.

In 2002,Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group Co.,Ltd. was established, marking the company's transformation from a single enterprise to a modern corporate group spanning industries,regions, and ownership. In 2008, the company achieved the goal of reaching RMB 10 billion in revenue.

As China became the world's largest manufacturing country, TZCO has seen many of its products reach the pinnacle in the industry. In 2019, its casting cranes were awarded the first batch of "Manufacturing Single Champion Enterprise” in China.

Under the leadership of the new management team, TZCO has embarked on a new journey of deepening reform. With continuous reform and innovation, TZCO is promoting high-quality and high-speed development, making strides towards a modern intelligent equipment manufacturing enterprise with world-class competitiveness.

In March 2020, TZCO held a officials conference, appointing Han Zhentang as Party Secretary of TZCO and Chairman of the Board. In July 2020, TZCO presented its reform plan at a meeting of the Shanxi Provincial Finance and Economics Commission, receiving full approval from the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee.In December 2020, Mr, Huang Kunming, the former member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, conducted a visiting tour to TZCO, highly praising the achievements made in deepening reform.

In May 2022, construction commenced on the TZCO Smart High-end Engineering Excavator industrial Park. In May 2022,TZCO became the sole “double chain leader” in Shanxi Province. In December 2022, the TZCO Smart High-end Equipment Industrial Park was completed and put into operation, and Mr, Lin Wu, the former Secretary of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee, conducted a visiting tour to the new industrial park.

In February 2023, the “Three Batches” (signing a batch of projects, starting a batch of projects and putting a batch of projects into production) event of the development zones in Shanxi Province was held, and Mr. Lan Fo’an, the former Secretary of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee conducted a visiting tour to TZCO. In July 2023, the first meeting of the State Key Laboratory of intelligent Mining Equipment Technology was held at TZCO. In September 2023, the TZCO Smart High-end Engineering Excavator Industrial Park was put into operation.

In January 2024, the first phase of the supporting residential properties in the TZCO Xiaohe Industrial Park was fully delivered. In June 2024, the Intelligent High-end Engineering, Crane Industrial Park entered a comprehensive construction phase. In July 2024, Li xi, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline in spection conducted a visiting tour to TZCO. Comrade Li Xi highly praised TZCO’s products and technologies and expected TZCO to make greater contributions to the development of new quality productive forces. In July 2024, Tang Dengjie, Secretary of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee, visited TZCO to promote the guiding principles of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and acclaimed higher technological content of TZCO’s products, the ever-upgrading equipment, and its growing competitiveness.

In March 2025, TZCO Equipment Service Co., Ltd. and the maintenance center base were fully operational. In April 2025, TZCO New Energy Intelligent Forklift Industrial Park entered the stage of installation and commissioning.
